VET Design project kicks off in Schwerin, promising innovation in vocational training

Schwerin, Germany – An exciting new chapter has begun in the realm of Vocational Education and Training (VET) with the official kick-off of the “VET Design” project. This Erasmus+ KA220 Cooperation Partnership in VET brings together a dynamic consortium comprising RegioVision Schwerin (Germany), Acceleras (Austria), Know-House (Czech), and MindmeUp (Greece), embarking on a shared mission to elevate the relevance, permeability, innovation, competitiveness, and attractiveness of VET.

The project’s objectives are ambitious and timely, directly addressing the evolving needs of the modern workforce and the challenges posed by economic shifts, as well as the green and digital transitions. Specifically, “VET Design” aims to:

  1. Empower VET providers to adapt their training programs proactively to meet changing skill demands and navigate economic cycles and the imperatives of green and digital transformations.
  2. Foster innovation in organizational practices within VET institutions, enhancing their planning and management capabilities to better align with the needs of emerging industry ecosystems.
  3. Develop market-driven and learner-centric VET offerings that effectively bridge gaps in training access for adults seeking to manage transitions within the labor market.

To achieve these goals, the project partners are set to implement a series of groundbreaking activities:

  • Design Thinking VET-tailored Manual: This practical manual will serve as a comprehensive guide for VET providers, demonstrating how to leverage Design Thinking methodologies as a powerful tool for planning and managing the creation of market-relevant and learner-focused VET programs.
  • EDUCkathons GUIDE: Introducing a novel educational planning tool, the EDUCkathon. This guide will provide VET actors with a clear framework for organizing “Education Hackathons” – collaborative events designed to spark creativity and generate innovative VET offerings.
  • Design Circles: To ensure the sustainable integration of these innovative approaches, the project will facilitate practical workshops and webinars known as “Design Circles.” These sessions will focus on embedding Design Thinking and EDUCkathons as regular and integrated practices within VET provider organizations.

The anticipated results of “VET Design” are transformative. By strategically blending the core principles of Design Thinking – experimentation, gamification, and innovation – with the fundamental objectives of VET, the project envisions a future where vocational training is more inclusive, highly adaptable, and directly aligned with industry needs. Moreover, VET professionals, including managers and educators, who engage with Design Thinking and EDUCkathons will gain invaluable enhanced innovative capacity. This will empower them to design, plan, and manage future VET offerings that are precisely tailored to meet evolving market demands and the skills required for tomorrow’s workforce.

The project officially commenced with an inspiring kick-off meeting held in the picturesque city of Schwerin, Germany, home to the project partner Regio Vision. Beyond the productive discussions and collaborative planning, the partners had the opportunity to experience the autumnal charm of Schwerin. The breathtaking beauty of the fall foliage surrounding the majestic Schwerin Castle and the serene shimmering lakes created an unforgettable backdrop for the start of this exciting venture.
